Rick Slayman, the first man to receive a kidney transplant from a genetically engineered pig , has died, according to a statement from his family and Massachusetts General Hospital, where he underwent the historic operation in March. “Our family is deeply saddened about the sudden passing of our beloved Rick but take great comfort knowing he inspired so many,” his family said in the statement released Saturday evening.
